Fabric Formula #1 Tea Set

Fabric Formula #1 Tea Set is a ceramic project that plays on the traditional slip casting process to highlight the unique beauty of fabric in mass production. Here, Studio Kae uses a fabric covered mold for slip casting. When the ceramic is poured, gravity automatically attaches the fabric to the inner wall of half of the mold, giving one side of the finished ceramic piece the same texture and dimension of the fabric.

In the Tea Set, half of each ceramic piece appears to be elegantly wrapped by the fabric which provides an interesting contrast with the smooth, natural surface pattern that comes from traditional molding. The uncertainty caused by external factors (type of fabric used,  natural draping inside the mold, etc.)  is transformed into the unique beauty of the product itself. In the context of mass production, giving each product a unique shape will mirror the unique relationship between the product and the customer.

Note: Whole Tea Set includes 1 Milk Jug, 1 Sugar Bowl, 1 Tea Pot and 2 Tea Cups
