While traditional plastic chairs are injection molded and then surface-decorated with fabric, the Fabric Formula #2 Accent Stool inverts this process with the use of a special low-melting plastic-Polymorph and dynamic metal mold. The Accent Stool is formed first by wrapping the fabric for its final shape and then the rigid internal support structure is added to create a functional chair.
The advantage of this production model is that the folded fabric determines the Stool’s final shape. The contrast between the hard texture of the stool and the visual softness of the fabric surface creates an interesting sensory illusion. The uncertainty caused by external factors (type of fabric, folding and draping techniques, etc.) is transformed into the unique beauty of the product itself. In the context of mass production, giving each product a unique shape mirrors in the unique relationship between the product and the customer.
