Ruralanas
Founded in 2003, as an initiative of the Gastesi Martinicorena Foundation, Ruralanas was created to improve the lives of rural women. A social impact company, Ruralanas’ production model was designed with their artisans in mind, giving them access to improved tools and training which empowers them to achieve a higher production yield. This translates into greater economic profitability for each artisan and their family.
With workshops located in rural areas in northern Uruguay, including Artigas, Salto, Paysandú and Río Negro, Ruralanas contributes to the economic sustainability and well-being of many Uruguayan families. Their artisan collectives, run entirely by women, hand make 100% wool products, spinning, weaving and dying clothing and decorative items. Their collection is updated annually, incorporating modern trends into traditional design.
